HYLÉSTHÉSIE
12/01/2025 - 15/02/2025
solo exhibition
opening Sunday 12/01/2025
14h - 19h
Hylésthésie (from the Greek hylé - matter / esthésie - sense) is an exhibition that unfolds like a meditative immersion. It seeks to report on a reality through different devices which invites us to dream around it.
It begins with a sound piece created using hypnosis techniques and designed in collaboration with an anesthetist. Accompanied by a multi-sounding composition, a voice invites you on a journey through the five elements. From the boreal forests to the depths of magma, from the vascular system to the various states of water, we move from one matter to another, from a time to another.
Bathed in layers of sound, Hylésthésie is also embodied in a range of objects that allow us to experience a continuum between voice and matter.
We come across a massive, gnarled branch, its rough bark reminiscent of cooled magma crust. A rumbling sound emerges from the depths of the earth. Like a crystallisation of this telluric song, slices of translucent rocks depict singular physical phenomena. Gorgonians, marine animals resembling miniature trees, are laid out as a small forest, revealing a disturbing resemblance to the network of neurons represented further on.
From the depths of the sea to the depths of the brain, via the subterranean labyrinths of mycelium, the formal similarities confuse the subjects as well as the functions: Neurons and mycelium have this in common: they carry electrical signals, transmitting information through their tree structures.
Following this mesh of interconnections, Hylésthésie presents different types of interlacing, organic networks and shifting assemblages, where the imagination of each individual resonates with the acoustic and visual images being told. Matters, voices and sounds suggest a sensory drift into the depths of our world.
"Hylésthésie" is an exhibition an exhibition intended to echo the one created
for Abbaye de Maubuisson: " En deçà de l’invisible ", on view until 23 February 2025.
