Vincent Mauger is an artist born in 1976 in Rennes and living in Nantes. He works with “poor” materials, playing with volume and space in order to redefine the latter and give it a new dimension. A sensitive and logical artist, all his work is based on a study of form and the type(s) of material used. He sketches and develops his work using computer-generated sketches and test models. Once he is satisfied with his project, this seemingly fragile individual attacks the material, often using a chainsaw. "I really like this relationship with violence during the creative process. In my opinion, it's like the violence (in the literal sense of the word) that we may experience throughout our lives, which shapes us and sharpens us, sometimes bringing out the best in us." This artist's work on the material, attacking it in order to bring something out, is similar in some ways. He restores meaning and existence to the simple materials he uses. Polystyrene or terracotta bottle racks, PVC crates, battens, and various types of non- precious wood become daily objects that alter our relationship with the space in which the sculpture is placed.
